We’re proud to exclusively use Expert Professional Wood Care Stains. While most conventional stains are water-based and short-lasting, most exterior wood stains are actually oil based, however Expert Professional wood care made theirs specifically for fencing because they were not satisfied with any on the market and their product is low VOC (better for environment, pets, plants everybody), and doesn’t leave lap marks so its very easy to apply.

When is the best time to stain a new fence?
You generally want to wait a few weeks for the “mill glaze” to wear off and the wood to dry out completely. If the wood is too “green” or wet, the stain won’t soak in properly and will eventually peel. We use a moisture meter to ensure your fence is ready for its close-up.
How often should I re-stain my fence?
In the North Carolina climate, we typically recommend a fresh coat every two to three years for semi-transparent stains. Solid stains can last a bit longer, but they tend to show wear more clearly. Regular maintenance is much cheaper than replacing a rotted-out fence.
Does staining prevent the wood from graying?
Yes, the pigment in the stain acts like “sunscreen” for your wood, blocking the UV rays that break down the fibers and cause that weathered gray look. Even a clear sealer with UV inhibitors will help, but a little bit of color provides the best protection. Your fence will keep that “just installed” glow for much longer.
Can you change the color of an old fence?
If your old fence is in good structural shape, we can clean it and apply a darker or solid stain to give it a completely new look. It is the most effective way to give your backyard a “facelift” without the cost of a full replacement. It’s like a makeover for your property line.
Do you spray or brush the stain on?
We typically use a professional-grade sprayer for even coverage and then “back-brush” the stain into the wood grain. This ensures the protection goes deep into the fibers rather than just sitting on the surface. We also take great care to cover your plants and home so they don’t end up the same color as the fence.
